Edit GridView In Excel

Introduction

Excel is a very powerful data manipulation tool - an environment ideal for making modifications to Active Directory user attributes.  By writing simple formulas you can base updates on other attributes.

Instructions

  • Select the "Edit In Excel" from the "Grid" menu.
Note: The edit in Excel option will not be available if Microsoft Excel is not installed or the option was disabled in the application config file.  The "Grid" menu will not be available if the "BulkModify" component was not installed or if the option was disabled in the application config file.
  • The Grid will refresh by default to get up-to-date user information.  If a message might appear warning about updating the "ADsPath" column - Click OK if this message appears.
  • Excel will load.  Make modifications to the spreadsheet as required, but do not update and data in the "ADsPath" column.  The "ADsPath" column is used to link the spreadsheet data to user accounts in Active Directory.
  • Close Excel and save the file when you are finished making modifications.
  • A message will appear asking for confirmation to update Active Directory attributes.  Click OK if you are sure you want to update.
  • The Bulk Modify results dialog should appear giving you detailed information about the update.

Excel Compatibility

Excel 2003
Excel 2007

The "Edit in Excel" option has not been tested with older versions of Excel.
