Hey mate
First off, thanks for the product - it seems pretty neat altogether, but I'm having a bit of an issue with it. I can't really say it's a bug as such, however, the problem is as follows:
I'm an admin for a LARGE company, which means we're talking a forest split into several worldwide domains, with me being the admin of the EMEA part (Europe, Middle East, and Asia) again with more than 150 OUs underneath.
I want to make a change on a single sub-OU, where I have the migrated users, which need some afterwork before I move them to their proper locations.
I need to use the Bulk Modifier, as it's quite simply a change of the usernames to lowercase I need done. If I go to the Bulk Modifier, and choose to select the users from OU, the tool hangs. Or more precisely, I haven't had the patience to let it finish even showing me the next picture, since I gave up after 30 minutes of waiting time. I tried then selecting the users from Query instead, trying to see what would happen if I chose "Change" under the domain. Same result.
Overall, the size of our tree seems to downright kill the tool - I can easily look up users one at a time, but with an organization this large, I'm sure you can imagine exactly how many users there are in the first case.
Is there a way I can merely define it to only look in the specific sub OU before it makes any lookups to the domain, so as to avoid it trying to make a full structure of something along the lines of 10.000 OUs and sub-OU with users out the wazoo?
Thanks in advance for any and all help you can provide
~Christian
edited by Noia on 9/17/2008 : I left the machine trying to find by OU, and now I'm through. I don't know how long it took, but well past 20 minutes. (the initial report of 30 minutes with no result was running the tool locally from a computer through a fast line with VPN - 20 minutes at least running it on a server on location. I have now found the users and will do the Bulk Modify. From initial looks of things, I'm up for another long wait before it's done with opening the Bulk Modify)

Hopefully the update worked ok?
I'm working on a new version of Password Control at the moment - I'll look into the performance problems you've mentioned. My test environment only has a handful of OUs with a few thousand user accounts. I'll create a domain with a much larger OU structure and a greater number of user accounts for performance testing. I'll look at improving performance for the next release.
Thanks for letting me know about this issue. You've been quite clear about what you are trying to do and you've given me a good idea about the size of your domain. This will help when I'm trying to reproduce the problem.
Thanks,
David

Beta testing
of the new version is now available!
The new version should run much faster on larger domains.

Brilliant, I'll give it a try :-)
All the changes have been done already, but you never know when it'll come in handy again ;-)
Thank you for your efforts and time!

I feel a bit sheepish, however where are you hiding that beta? The link you posted directs to this thread.

Sorry, there was a problem with forum code I used to create the link - it's been updated now:
