Hello

I installed Password Control 2.5 in order to specify a specific OU which works great via a command line (-root command). I simply dropped the 2.5 beta files into a directory on a new system as there is no installer as documented.

The issue is that I need to change the look of Password Control to hide most options from our Help Desk, I did this on 2.4 within the PasswordControl.exe.config file, setting various settings to False. The problem I am having is that whatever I change within the 2.5 config file does not happen on the Password Control 2.5 window which seems to use default settings each time. Even removing the PasswordControl.exe.config does not seem to effect the Password Control 2.5 window.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW - great little program

Hi - I'm unable to reproduce this issue on my computer. I tried updating the config file to disable features - this seems to work ok. If I remove the config file I get a "Configuration system failed to initialize" error.

Do you get this issue on every PC? Also, have you tried re-downloading the software from this website?

I'm planning to release a new version at some point which will allow you to configure security from within the UI rather than using the config file. Ideally it's best to control security using Active Directory as any application level settings will not prevent users from performing those actions using a different method - e.g. scripts. It can also be a good idea to hide the options that don't apply in the application though - this is something many users like to do in addition to controlling security in AD.

Hope this helps,

David

Thanks for the response.

Something is very odd in my end, I redownloaded the 2.5_beta, uninstalled Password Contol 2.4 on a separate server, unzipped the contents and tried to re-edit the configuration file with no luck. At that point I removed the config file itself and placed it in another directory, the program still opened up and was functioning. I then rebooted the server with the configuration file removed from its original directory with the same results, even without the configuration file within that directory, 2.5_beta still opens up. Seems like it pulling the configuration from somewhere else, where I do not know.

I am installing this on a Windows 2003 SP 2 server and if I could get the feature hidden I was going to to publish the program via Citix 4.0 with the -root command. I also have .net 2.0 installed.

Once again thanks for your response.
