Will an Arduino nano suffice as a distance sensor that lights an LED when the car gets too close to the garage wall or do I need garage lights?

I would choose the cheaper, lower power LED lights for a garage that does not require a lot of Input/Outputs and does not require intense processing power. The garagebible.com have some options of 10 additional analog inputs though, not needed for a distance sensor .
